Infrared Temperature Measurement
…No Contact!
Noncontact temperature measurement with infrared thermometers proves to be a highly qualified way of controlling and assessing process temperatures. Furthermore, infrared thermometry has become an indispensable part in the maintenance of machines and plants.
The wide range of choice and technical adjustment of infrared thermometers to measurement problems combined with a close cooperation with suppliers of mechanical engineering allow to easily upgrade existing production plants as well as to design long term equipment for new plants.
Installed USB or RS 232 interfaces for data output and access to product parameters support the direct implementation into digital mechanical control systems. Portable units are equipped with an LCD display for a direct temperature reading.
Currently infrared thermometers are grouped into 4 series:
Portable Series
Camera Infrared Series
Compact Series
High Performance Series
>> Optris - Product Overview
Portable Series
Wide temperature ranges of -32 to 760°C, laser aiming and optical resolutions of up to 40:1 allow technicians to carry out accurate noncontact surface measurements for electrical and mechanical maintenance, HVAC checks, automotive testing and other applications, anywhere that temperature is a factor. The optris MSthermometers enable you to measure objects as small as 13 mm. Just spot the object, press the trigger and the infrared thermometers will show the temperature in an instant.
Features
Precision optics for accurate noncontact temperature measurement
Temperature ranges from -32 up to 2000°C
Fast 0.3 second scanning of cold and hot spots
Exact measurement of objects as small as 13 mm in any distance less than 140 mm
Optical resolutions up to 300:1
Laser sighting with narrow beam aiming for accurate readings
Adjustable acoustic HIGH-/LOW-alarm with changing backlight colors
USB interface, thermocouple input type K, OptrisConnect Report Software
Extremely lightweight
Typical Applications
Temperature measurement for inspection and maintenance purposes of electrical plants
Temperature measurement for inspection and maintenance purposes of heating and air conditioning equipment

Compact Series
Optris introduces new benchmarks within the area of industrial pyrometers regarding the size and robustness of the sensing heads. The miniaturized sensing heads are especially developed for the use in small and cramped surroundings and are perfect for applications with limited space, such as midget instruments and engine constructions. The compact series devices offer inimitable advantages for the installation in applications with high surrounding temperatures, such as within the plastic or paper industry. The robust and ambitious design allows the sensing heads to be used for temperatures up to 250°C without additional cooling. This advantage helps to reduce the costs for mechanical installations.
Features
One of the smallest infrared sensors worldwide with extrem short response time of 6 ms (90 % signal)
Fast analog output (0/4 - 20 mA, 0 - 5/10 V) with smart real time data processing
Instant digital 0/10 V output with a response time of 4 ms (50 % signal)
Easy to assemble in multiple arrays for line scanning of small and fast objects (hot spot detection) using a RS485 bus communication
Rugged up to 250°C ambient temperature without cooling
Typical Applications
Monitoring temperatures of smoothing and embossing calenders
Monitoring temperatures of film extrusion and lamination processes
Monitoring metal extrusion in casting facilities
Measuring temperatures in laser welding and laser cutting processes
Measuring temperatures of wafers in the field of semiconductor production, for instance during photoresist removal

High Performance Series
The infrared thermometers of the high performance series consist of an innovative double laser sight, in contrast to many IR thermometers with single lasers which only mark the middle but not the size for the spot size. The two emitters follow the infrared optical path to mark the accurate size and spot of the measuring field in every distance. This greatly supports the avoidance of measurement errors. The infrared thermometers of this class are mainly used in industrial area as well as research and development. Small measurement field sizes are of great importance for precise temperature measurement. The smallest spot size is marked by the cross over point of the two laser sights. The optris CTlaser 1M for example achieves a measurement field size of 0.5 mm in 150 mm distance. A number of different lenses allow a flexible adjustment for the single applications. Optris offers different IR thermometer designs. Our customers can therefore find the ideal device for their application.
Features
Double laser aiming marks real spot location at any distance
Optical resolution up to 300:1 with selectable focus
Rugged sensing head withstands 250°C without cooling

Programmable 1 or 2 color mode
Typical Applications
Monitoring temperatures of film extrusion and lamination processes
Monitoring metal extrusion in casting facilities
Measuring temperatures in laser welding and laser cutting processes
Measuring temperatures of wafers in the field of semiconductor production, for instance during photoresist removal
